Jewel box ornamentation is the new idea of adornment, with beads, gems and stones placed where real jewelry might once have been on, say, the neck or the collar.

Banning the mini

Picture
Indonesia religious affairs minister,Suryadharma Ali, has proposed a ban on miniskirts , believing them to be pornographic. Ali was hired this month to head up the anti-pornography campaign Task Force and is calling for public input as to what constitutes a "porn crime".
"We still haven't established criteria, but we know pornography when see it," Mr Ali said, according to the  Wall Street Journal. "There should be general criteria, for example skirts worn by women must flow past the knees."
This isn't the first time miniskirts have been a subject of debate in the country - earlier this month, Indonesia's House of Representatives speaker, Marzuki Alie, suggested female staff should stop wearing short skirts. He argued that the item could lead to rape.

Banana split

Picture
An unusual competitor has appeared on Dolce & Gabbana's radar in the shape of South African seaside jewellery store Dolce and Banana - who now face prosecution. The luxury label has accused store-owner Mijou Beller - who has been in business for 12 years, crafting costume jewellery from driftwood and shells  of "diluting" its brand name and ignoring two previous warnings. Beller insists that the tongue-in-cheek name meant no harm.

Rihanna uncovered

Picture
Looks can be deceiving if Vogue cover girl Rihanna's latest proclamations of bashfulness are to be believed. The Barbados-born singer, known for her risqué outfits and provocative stage performances, has spoken about how she too has dealt with pangs of low body confidence

The carven effect

Picture
When designer Guillaume Henry took the helm of dormant couture house Carven and reinvented it as an affordable ready-to-wear luxury label, its owners could scarcely have believed what a wise move it would be. The label's quirky chicness has all but sold out at every major British retailer that carries it.
"Carven has been the fastest selling new designer for us this season," Luisa De Paula, MY-WARDROBE.COM's buying and merchandising director, told us. "The fastest-selling items have been the red silk drawstring waist dress, the map print dress and particularly the Robert Clergerie Z Line lace-up raffia shoes, which sold out in 24 hours of going live. Every piece of the collection has that luxury couture heritage, but is so wearable and at a great price point.  Each piece is so special with a unique twist on a classic; whether it's a blouse with twisted silk, a full skirt with a layered waistband or a dress with a drawstring waist to create an unusual silhouette."

Russia on the fashion rise

Picture
London, Paris, New York and Milan may be the world's most famous fashion destinations, but renowned journalist Gianluca Longo explains why Russia is the industry's new style spot. Here, he reports from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia, which took place last week in Moscow.
"Russian fashion is evolving and taking its own stake in the international panorama. With many young fashion designers emerging, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Russia has become the starting point for many - giving new talents exposure to international press and buyers."

Luxury H&M

Picture
Further to rumours earlier this week about a possible H&M luxury brand launching, H&M has confirmed it intends to debut a new chain of stores in 2013 to broaden its offering.
"We have many different projects in progress and already next year we will be launching a completely new store chain,"
The company has not yet confirmed details of the projected price points or product offering, but Persson spoke positively about the new brand's potential.

Furs were patchworked, collaged, and constructed in new, youthful ways that reenergized and reintroduced the idea of the fur coat to a new generation of women. And when it wasn’t full-on, it was an accent—whether as a detachable collar or trimming a sleeve, hem, or pocket.

Last night was the opening of the new valentino flagship, here is a look at some of the attendees of this fabulous event

Winslet bares all

Picture
Kate Winslet admits to being slightly embarrassed about her nude scenes inTitanic. The actress attended the premiere of the film's 3D version in London last night and said she wasn't looking forward to watching the famous scenes where she poses for a nude portrait.
"I'm not going to look," she said ahead of the film's relaunch last night. "I'll be in the bar by that point."
She went onto describe how watching the film would be "weird".

Claudias return!

Picture
Cladia Schiffer is returning to the brand that created one of her most iconic images, denim brand Guess, as the face of its 30th Anniversary Collection. Inspired by Guess pieces worn by famous Guess girls over the past three decades, the 15-piece collection features - amongst other pieces - wide-neck T-shirts bearing images of Line Gost and Anna Nicole Smith; jeans with a cut-off waistband originally modelled by Adriana Lima; and a sleeveless monochrome gingham top worn by Eva Herzigova.
"Guess will always have a soft spot in my heart, and I'm excited that 23 years later we can still work together so successfully," Schiffer - who appeared in six campaigns between 1989 to 1991

Supermodel envy

Picture
Candice Swanepoel would like to follow fellow Angel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley into acting, but feels she has a disadvantage compared to her English counterpart: her South African accent.
"I have thought about it," she told May's issue ofGQ. "But it's different when you're speaking; it's harder for me."

Jenny wants another kate.

Picture
Having dressed almost every famous Kate you can think of - from the Duchess of Cambridge, to Kate Beckinsale, to Kate Winslet (who sported another of her dresses at last night's Titanicpremiere in London) - designer Jenny Packhamstill has one in her sights.
"Cate Blanchett - she's the one we haven't dressed!" she laughed. "The new collection is inspired by Film Noir - by the heroines in particular; the femme fatale - and she'd look perfect in it. Especially this silver backless dress."

Frustenbabies

Picture
The tiniest DVF wrap dresses you have ever seen were flying off the rails on Oxford Street this morning, as  Diane von Furstenberg's Gap collection went on sale nationwide. Customers on Oxford Street waited in an orderly manner to be allowed access at 8.30am - most on route to work and without children to slow their shopping progress. A few, we suspect, may not even havechildren - as the bigger sizes of shoes and dresses, priced from just £20, seemed to be selling particularly well.

Dorino remembered

Picture
DORINO DELLA VALLE - Tod's founder and father of current CEO and chairman Diego Della Valle and his brother, vice-chairman Andrea - has died at the age of 87. He passed away at Casette d'Ete, the small Italian town where the luxury label is based.
"He was a lovely man, very reserved and of few words, but you could see in his eyes how proud he was of his work and of his sons' endeavours," Armando Branchini, deputy chairman of Milan consultancy InterCorporate, told WWD "He didn't consider himself an entrepreneur, but a shoemaker."
Della Valle lent his name to the label he established in the Forties, which he and his sons later renamed Tod's. Private services will be held to remember Della Valle on Thursday.
