Stars in Dior

Picture
DIOR's most faithful fashion fans have become the subject of a new book and exhibition, from past Hollywood icons - such as Marlene Dietrich,Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren - to cinema's current crop of acting talents, including Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Kristen Dunst.
Stars In Dior -  which opens in France at the Christian Dior Museum on May 12 until September 23 - looks back at women throughout history, who have all worn the label's clothes - featuring recent pictures of its current fragrance muses, Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron, as well as archive images of Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly. Each picture shows a star wearing Dior in a different way, whether pared-down with jeans like Marion Cotillard or pretty and gamine like Jean Seberg. Other highlights include illustrations of its famous gowns.

The big three!

Picture
THREE of the biggest Italian fashion labels have seen a healthy year of growth - with and without IPO listings.  Versace returned to profit in 2011 - with earnings of €8.5 million compared to a loss of €21.7 million in 2010 - whilst Salvatore Ferragamo and Prada, which both listed on the stock exchange in the past year, saw net profits lift by 69.8 per cent and 72.2 per cent respectively.

Maternal muse

Picture
Arizona muse unlike many other models, she didn't feel the pressure to get back on the catwalk as soon as she gave birth.
"There are plenty of models who have children," she said. "At first I was like, 'I'm going to be fat forever!' I think we all feel that way after we have a baby. I threw away so many clothes thinking that it would be so depressing having them sitting in my drawer when they're never going to fit me. I got rid of my favourite pair of jeans, which of course would fit me now. You just have to give your body time. You can't have a three-month-old baby and think, 'That's it for me.' I tell mothers that you have to wait a whole year before you start judging your body, before you start working on it. Just give yourself a whole year of rest… I think my body was better after I had a child, actually. I prefer my body now to what it was like before I had Nikko - although I exercise now and I didn't then."
Although the 23-year-old single mother admits managing her career - from  Prada catwalk to  Vogue cover - was tricky at times, she made her son her priority.

Sister brand

Picture
H&M has reportedly registered trademarks and a logo for a new brand called "& Other Stories," Swedish news service Dagens Nyheter reports. The label confirmed last week that it is set to launch a new label, but has not yet confirmed its name or any further details.

Plan A

Picture
In an interview promoting her debut novel, Can We Still Be FriendsVogue editor Alexandra Shulman says she never planned to have a career in fashion journalism.
"[The idea of becoming a writer] was my idea of a nightmare," she said, "I wanted to be a hairdresser."
It was only after "accidentally" landing a job as an editorial secretary at the now-defunct women's magazine Over 21 that she worked out where her future lay.
"I loved being in a magazine office and I think from that point I knew what I was going to do," she told theObserver.
She wouldn't, however, want to trade places with today's generation of young women - firmly stating that she wouldn't ever feel inclined to have a vajazzle, for example

The new carrie

Picture
Another Monday, another weekend's worth of pictures of AnnaSophia Robb - the actress playing a young Carrie Bradshaw - from the set of The Carrie Diaries. This time, a typically Carrie look of sequinned dress and bright shoes was the highlight.

Banning the mini

Picture
Indonesia religious affairs minister,Suryadharma Ali, has proposed a ban on miniskirts , believing them to be pornographic. Ali was hired this month to head up the anti-pornography campaign Task Force and is calling for public input as to what constitutes a "porn crime".
"We still haven't established criteria, but we know pornography when see it," Mr Ali said, according to the  Wall Street Journal. "There should be general criteria, for example skirts worn by women must flow past the knees."
This isn't the first time miniskirts have been a subject of debate in the country - earlier this month, Indonesia's House of Representatives speaker, Marzuki Alie, suggested female staff should stop wearing short skirts. He argued that the item could lead to rape.

Banana split

Picture
An unusual competitor has appeared on Dolce & Gabbana's radar in the shape of South African seaside jewellery store Dolce and Banana - who now face prosecution. The luxury label has accused store-owner Mijou Beller - who has been in business for 12 years, crafting costume jewellery from driftwood and shells  of "diluting" its brand name and ignoring two previous warnings. Beller insists that the tongue-in-cheek name meant no harm.

Rihanna uncovered

Picture
Looks can be deceiving if Vogue cover girl Rihanna's latest proclamations of bashfulness are to be believed. The Barbados-born singer, known for her risqué outfits and provocative stage performances, has spoken about how she too has dealt with pangs of low body confidence

The carven effect

Picture
When designer Guillaume Henry took the helm of dormant couture house Carven and reinvented it as an affordable ready-to-wear luxury label, its owners could scarcely have believed what a wise move it would be. The label's quirky chicness has all but sold out at every major British retailer that carries it.
"Carven has been the fastest selling new designer for us this season," Luisa De Paula, MY-WARDROBE.COM's buying and merchandising director, told us. "The fastest-selling items have been the red silk drawstring waist dress, the map print dress and particularly the Robert Clergerie Z Line lace-up raffia shoes, which sold out in 24 hours of going live. Every piece of the collection has that luxury couture heritage, but is so wearable and at a great price point.  Each piece is so special with a unique twist on a classic; whether it's a blouse with twisted silk, a full skirt with a layered waistband or a dress with a drawstring waist to create an unusual silhouette."

Russia on the fashion rise

Picture
London, Paris, New York and Milan may be the world's most famous fashion destinations, but renowned journalist Gianluca Longo explains why Russia is the industry's new style spot. Here, he reports from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia, which took place last week in Moscow.
"Russian fashion is evolving and taking its own stake in the international panorama. With many young fashion designers emerging, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Russia has become the starting point for many - giving new talents exposure to international press and buyers."

Luxury H&M

Picture
Further to rumours earlier this week about a possible H&M luxury brand launching, H&M has confirmed it intends to debut a new chain of stores in 2013 to broaden its offering.
"We have many different projects in progress and already next year we will be launching a completely new store chain,"
The company has not yet confirmed details of the projected price points or product offering, but Persson spoke positively about the new brand's potential.

Luxury H&M

Picture
H&M is rumoured to be launching its first luxury brand. Rumours emerged after Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri reported that the high street chain is working on a new project, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
The brand has dabbled in the luxury market before, teaming up with labels including Lanvin,Versace and Marni, as well as launching its sustainable red carpet range - entitled the Exclusive Glamour Conscious Collection - which will land in stores on April 12. Michelle Williams has already shown her support for the line, wearing one of its monochrome floor-length gowns to the BAFTAs

LFW Freshman

Picture
Joseph will hold its first ever catwalk show at London Fashion Week this September, a spokesperson for the label told us this afternoon. The brand has previously only shown its new collections through presentation format.
Although few details are known concerning location or date, we do know the brand is planning something "very special".

Nasty angie

Picture
Angelina JOLIE is gearing up to play Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent in a new film of the same name -  and the actress revealed that her children are even more excited than her about the prospect.
"It's a really great script. I'm having a lot of fun. I've already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy," Jolie said. "We're still figuring out the look. We're experimenting with different things. But the horns are the horns - you can't deny them. You have to have horns."
And the actress is looking forward to showing a more human side to the character, reportedly opposite Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora.

The Rhinna Show

Picture
Henry Holland will co-host Rihanna's new fashion television show, alongside close friend Nicola Roberts. The pair will team up to search the UK for the country's next big design star. The final winner will have their work worn by Rihanna during her performance at London's Wireless Festival in July.

"I'm really excited about this new show," said Holland. "I think it's a great concept and a brilliant opportunity and platform for designers and stylists. A chance to work with Rihanna and some great mentors across the music and fashion industries is definitely something I wish I had been lucky enough to be able to do when I was starting out."

Wang Response

Picture
Alexander Wang has fought back against allegations from a group of former employees that he runs his New Yrok factory like a "sweatshop". Wang says the employee leading the complaint, Wenyu Lu, was actually dismissed for bullying his co-workers.
"The claims regarding sweatshop conditions are completely untrue," an Alexander Wang spokesperson said "In reality, this case was filed by an individual who was let go by the company as a result of serious harassment issues. We stand by our decision to promote a safe workplace environment for all employees regardless of false claims that may be waged against us in retaliation."
The lawsuit was filed by a group of around 30 former employees in a Manhattan Federal Court last week, having been initially filed with the Supreme Court. Lawyers for Alexander Wang will have 20 days to reply to the complaint.

Kenneth cole collection

Picture
After the launch of its diffusion collection (925) two years ago in House of Fraser, Kenneth Cole is set to explore the opposite end of the spectrum when it unveils new label Kenneth Cole Collection this evening in New York. The range comprises both men's and womenswear with advanced fabrics and styling, plus higher price-tags to match, in celebration of the label's 30th birthday- a longstanding desire of Cole's. A life-size look book will introduce the new collection through eight video installations of models showing 24 individual looks - and it seems there will be a lot to fit in
