The hairstylist, who cut abbreviated bangs and precision bobs at Calvin Klein, swears the inspiration was 1920s flappers and Bauhaus architecture, but the impact Dutch model Patricia van der Vliet and her fellow mannequins made on the runway carried over across the pond, where The Rooney Effect, as it came to be known, popped up at shows from Antonio Berardi in London to Versace in Milan.

The simplicity of bare skin against a deep, black-cherry lip, or dark, kohl-rubbed eyes set in contrast to a muted nude mouth created powerfully feminine statements.
For the first time in a very long time, blondes were a distinct minority on the runways And the brunettes were the favored girls it all started in new york and carried through the season so brunettes its your time to shine!
In a season rife with opulent ornamentation, all manner of braid and twist—from soft and sweet to clean and sleek—emerged as another expression of texture and embellishment.

Likely the most unexpected shades for eyes, reds and oranges—from bold to muted—emerged as new colors of choice on key runways.

In keeping with the season’s move away from bronzer and gold accents, cool touches of silver and white brought light to the face.
Makeup artists played with black liquid liner in creative new ways elongating eyes by sketching precision lines toward the inner corner, creating “floating” flicks above the outer corner, and exaggerating the classic wing to add sharp detail to otherwise bare faces.
This season, there is a brow for everyone: bleached, bold, virtually untouched, or . . . jeweled.
The red lip never really disappears, but this season it was brighter, and bolder than ever—the ultimate accessory for power dressing often velvety matte in texture, and suggested by designers for both nightand day.
The pale lip never looked as pretty as on this fall’s  runways.  From glossy blush-tones to near-invisible matte flesh-tones, the muted mouth added a spare, understated softness that played perfectly against the season’s emphasis on impeccable skin.

"My sister is an amazing designer - she's working on her new label at the moment." Sienna told us. "In fact she's designing in my attic as we speak. I just can't wait to wear all of the pieces." The sisters announced in February that they were stepping down from Twenty8Twelve, the label that they co-founded in 2007.

Missing Mccartney

Picture
If Linda McCartney was still alive today, it seems her daughter Stella would have plenty to ask her. Almost 15 years on from her mother's death,McCartney still feels the large gap that her mother has left behind.
"Losing my mum - that was a punch-me moment. Obviously, being a woman, I've probably got a couple more questions for her than I do for dad," McCartney told Interview magazine. "I feel like a different person since my mum passed away."
She also reveals how the life she has created with husband Alasdhair Willis - who next year she will celebrate her 10th wedding anniversary with - bears a certain resemblance to her own childhood.

Gucci Battle

Picture
Guess CEO Paul Marciano defended his label in court yesterday, over allegations that the brand has been copying Gucci designs - including its famous logos. The luxury fashion house is seeking $221 million (£131.181 million), in damages.
"This kind of pattern is common in the world of fashion and it's not particular to Gucci," Marciano said of Guess' handbag with a diamond-logoed "G" pattern. "What I understand here, which is very frequent [in fashion], is an inspiration to create an original bag of G's with the same components. That's what design is."
Gucci lawyer Louis Ederer highlighted an email exchange - spanning from 1995 until 2008 - between Guess and the company that makes its shoes, Marc Fisher Footwear, which showed that the companies were exchanging swatches of Gucci fabrics in order to accurately mimic the logo colours.
"No one from Guess followed up [with Marc Fisher]," Ederer said. "The truth is that Guess has been knocking off Gucci for years." Loving fashion in court the drama is so tres chic

Fur accents and jewel-box ornamentation at the neck (and therefore drawing attention around the face) were everywhere this season in the form of brooches like those at Bottega Veneta, so deliberately placed that it was hard to tell if they were a separate item or part of the dress, fabulous fur collars , and knit snoods that offered the same idea, but for a more downtown clientele.

"Chanel copy"

Picture
The "Chanel" suit, worn by Jacqueline Kennedyon the day that President Kennedy was assassinated was a fake  so says Chanel designerKarl Lagerfeld. The bright pink, bouclé skirt suit, which she wore with a pillbox hat, was assumed by all to be by her favourite label  Chanel  but was actually created by American dressmaker Oleg Cassini.
"The first Chanel jacket that I saw - that I knew was Chanel - was on TV," Carine Roitfeldsaid in an interview with the new print edition ofSTYLE.COM, alongside Karl Lagerfeld. "It was on Mrs Kennedy - the pink one."
"In 1963," Lagerfeld clarified, before revealing, "It was a fake, a line-by-line copy by Cassini. She did have real Chanels, her sister ordered them. We have all the proof."

Fashion's battle

Picture
Franca Sozzani has outlined how she plans to use her position to help women battle anorexia. Last year, the Vogue Italia editor launched a petition to close pro-ana websites, online blogs and social network sites that promote anorexia, which has, to-date, attracted 12,000 signatures.
"I will soon launch a provocation to stop such sites," Sozzani said at a talk at Harvard University yesterday. "I will ask for the help of the users themselves. We will set up a chain 'against', since the law is unable to close such sites. Taking the blame is a necessary deed and finding a solution is even more important."
Sozzani, who received France's prestigious Knight of the Legion of Honour earlier this month, also spoke about society's need to fight against obesity - demanding that the food industry take responsibility for its involvement in the issue. Back on the subject of anorexia, she called for the public to make a stand against the promotion of extreme thinness, as well as pro-ana websites.

Creative education

Picture
Anya Hindmarch and NET-A-PORTER.COM founder Natalie Massenet are pledging their support for rising entrepreneurs by partnering with the School for Creative Startups - a new project aiding and educating promising businesspeople in the creative industries. Labelled an "MBA for creatives", workshops and surgeries on the year-long courses will be run in a range of fields including fashion, design, performing arts and digital industries.
"I'm supporting the School for Creative Startups because the project's ambition - to boost innovation and the culture of entrepreneurship is something I feel strongly about," said Natalie Massenet. Towards the end of 2010, Hindmarch was enlisted by David Cameron along with Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon  as British Business ambassadors, to offer their contacts and advice to smaller British businesses to help advance their promotion abroad.
